Charles Von der Ahe opened the first Von’s in Los Angeles, California in 1906. The store was only 20 feet wide.

Von’s has a contentious and interesting history.

The grocer competed with Safeway in the 1980s.

When Safeway went into debt during this time, Von’s bought many of the stores it was selling to appease its creditors.

Von’s was the only presence in Southern Cali after Safeway pulled out due to debt.

Then, in the 1990’s, Safeway was doing much better and was able to purchase the entire Von’s chain. They kept the brand name in place since people liked and recognized it, but now Von’s is owned by Safeway.

You’ll notice the www.safewaysurvey.net and Von’s sweepstakes pages are different, but the prizes and rules are the same.

The prize for the Von’s survey is also a $100 Safeway giftcard, so don’t get confused. It’s only because Safeway owns Vons.

      1. While shopping at Vons in Las Vegas on Windmill … I was helped by a very nice young man named Mike .. he went above and beyond ..

      2. My name is Ophelia and I shopped today at VONS Supermarket and there were so many people. The store checker /cashier Ricardo A. provided outstanding customer service. I was so late for my work, and I was at a loss. I wanted to leave all I had shopped and walk out of the store, when Ricardo one of the cashiers/customer service reps offered his help. He is a remarkable fine young man who provided outstanding customer service. I want to mention other names that I always like to communicate and those are: Supervisors Lilia, Yesenia, and other store employees: Especially Sharon, Ian, Chris, Josuay from Fruits and Vegetable department. I will give them all 10+. I always receive great service from Vons. I assure you their services should not be unnoticed. Happy Thanksgiving to All.

    2. Good Morning,
Almost every day I go shopping to VONS supermarket located at 311 W. Los Feliz Blvd, Glendale, CA 91204
so I wish to express my gratitude and admiration about the following people who provide outstanding customer service. They are: Angelo, Lilia, Brenda, Ian, Azad, Sharon, Mani, Josuay, Aivela. Chris. They are all helpful, compassionate, passionate about their job, courteous, and friendly. I wish also to commend the staff in the Pharmacy. They are all helpful under supervision of Connie. They always give me a hand if I have heavy stuff in the cart , and also help me to carry all the products to my car.
Today I especially want to acknowledge Cindy working at Starbucks. She is very gentle with her beautiful smile, she often helped me especially during this flu season preparing a very delicious tea using the Peppermint TEA Majesty. And she even hurried to the isle to get for me a box of that amazing and delicious tea of bran TEVANA.
I really appreciate her attitude and I was touched knowing that she always will call me by my name.
VONS is one of my favorite stores, and I go there shopping for the last 20 years, and I always got professional and respectful service from all staff and store managers. And today I urge you to applaud the all the team members, supervisors, especially the employees that I have mentioned in my recommendation review.

  2. A Bad Experience at Vons
My family and I have been shopping at our neighborhood Vons for more than 20 yrs so it was absolutely unacceptable to receive poor customer service from one of their cashiers. Like many people tend to do when shopping, I had gone over my budget and informed the cashier (Donald M.) that I needed to put some items back. This angered Donald and he rudely let me know he was bothered. In his loud attempt to embarrass me he gained the attention of other customers in the store. After my encounter with Donald, I reported his behavior to the store manger, who was not at all surprised. Although the store manager offered compensation for Donald’s rudeness, my family and I have vowed not to shop in this store whenever he is there.

  3. I have been shopping at Vons since the 73’s because you have everything I need. Everything at my store(now) in Atascadero is so clean, and beautiful,. Yes, beautifully arranged. I almost left Vons, however, they brought in “Just4u” and it kept me there because of the helpful discounts. I live solely on Social Security, so that was a blessing. I enjoy the people there. They get to know you when you go in frequently, so it is a friendly place to shop. Steve makes checking out pleasant! Keep up the good work, Vons!!

  4. My friend went to buy a few things I needed at Vons and he was not sure where all the items on my list were, so he found himself going back to aisles when he caught the cashier named Olinda looking at him. When he was finally done and ready to pay, he said to Olinda, “You were looking at me because you thought I was going to steal, weren’t you?” And at first she denied it but then she said yes. This is outrageous and unacceptable. I cannot believe how Olinda can pre-judge people by the way they look and be so racist as my friend is Mexican.

    1. Don’t go to ‘FOOD FOR Less ‘ – OR – ” MORE OR LESS FOOD ” also, – you’re racially profiled the minute you walk into the store and ‘ monitored ‘ by teen age sweepers who won’t stop doing ‘ drive by’s ‘ every 5 minutes and won’t help you if you ask the location of product – which means go look for it somewhere else at von’s they try to peek around end caps .

  5. I spent over 100.00 dollars today. I frequent this store at least 4 times a week. The cashier was rude due to the fact I couldn’t lift a box of duraflames for the code number to be scanned. To make matters worse I was charged 10 cents for a bag fee, when I had 2 of my own bags. They were used.

  6. Hi, I shop at Von’s in San Marcos, Ca. Two of there Employees, Richard & Sandy have went beyond My expectations, when I needed help. For this reason, I will continue to shop there, and tell My Friends. Thank You!

She put together two fantastic baskets and I was very happy with them She is deserving of a raise and bonus points for her knowledge and thoughtfulness. Thank you

  11. I love Vons. Vons has everything I need in food products. Only one problem I have encountered since I began shopping at Vons in the ’70’s…..I can no longer print my list after going in and selecting what I intend to buy when I go shopping next. UGGH!!

  13. My husband and I shop at your vons store at 3550 murphy canyon road san diego, we stopped by your starbucks coffee shop and I have meet a very rude not friendly barista in my life. I ordered dragon fruit drink and it took her time to make my drink because she is conversing on one of your vons cashier. before we left your store my husband stopped by starbucks counter and asked barista if she can checked balance on his starbucks card and her respond is “I have old register and I cannot check any balance”

  14. clicked on the link on this page for the survey and it brought me to a page that was not active. Tried to complete the survey on your Safeway link, it brought me to a page to enter my code and it keeps telling me it does not recognize my code. It is difficult reading the code numbers of my receipt. The fives can look like sixes, tried using both and still receive a message of not recognizing my code numbers. So whats up? A contest you cannot enter?

  15. I became a regular customer of Vons when they had the monopoly game & become hook with their savings every week unfortunately one cashier is very mean & rude to me. As if, I’m stealing their sales, when it’s sales after all. I never go over their limit, I always make sure of it but they are rude & mean as if my money is not the same as others.

  16. I always get my prescriptions at Vons on Telephone in Ventura. Everyone there is so professional, but always so friendly. Nasha & Tracy are two of this great staff.

  17. I shop at Vons Northridge CA 91324. I moved from Hollywood to San Fernando valley 35 years ago.All these time I shop at Vons I have good experience with well trained employees. 18. The working staff at your store helped me. He gave a good idea when buying a ham. She is a smart and friendly staff.she’s name is “Eva”. Store number is #2029 in 4033 Ave.L Lancaster CA 93536.

  19. Today I was at the Von’s in Moorpark looking for a small chocolate cake for my wife’s birthday. there were none out that did anything for me. Maria in the bakery asked me what I was looking for and she went out of her way to look in the back for a small chocolate cake for me. There were none… but on a rack were some cakes waiting to be frosted and decorated. She asked me if I could wait 5 minutes and she proceeded to decorate a cake, very professionally I might add, and even added my wife’s name on it. Thank you very much Maria. You are the best for going out of your way. She is one of the reasons I like this Von’s. Thank you very much.

  20. I shop at the Von’s On Felicita in Escondido and I always get exceptional service so that is not my issue. I was there today and saw at least four customers not wearing masks and when I talked to a clerk she said they could not force anyone to wear one. I do not understand this when it came from the governor that when out in public everyone should wear one. I do not think my safety or the safety of others should be jeopardized because someone does not want to wear one- I personally do not enjoy it but it is for my safety as well as others. The only people who should be exempt are those who have had a test that has come back negative and they have a copy of the test with them. I just saw on the news this evening that we probably will have a repeat of this next winter.
