Did you know Whole Foods’ original name was Saferway?
Even more interesting is its origin story.
The store was founded by a 25 year old college dropout, John Mackey, and his girlfriend 21 year old Renee Lawson, in Austin Texas 1978.
The couple borrowed $45K from family and friends to start the natural food store.
Then they were kicked out of their apartment for storing food products there, so they decided to live at their grocery store instead.
The store was a “commercial zone” property meaning it had no shower, so they took baths in the Hobart Dishwasher, using the attached water hose to get clean.
The store they were living out of ended up becoming so successful that they were able to partner with two others in 1980 and open a large 10K+ sq ft store.
Sadly, only a year later, a flood passed through and wiped out the store’s inventory and equipment, with losses over $400,000, and they had no insurance.
A great story of how people working together can accomplish a lot, the community bonded together to help make repairs and clean up.
Whole Foods is still doing great today, and on August 28, 2017 it officially merged with Amazon.
That’s why you can now get 5% cash back at the chain if you use an Amazon Prime Visa card while shopping, another great tip to keep in mind.

I am trying to enter the sweepstakes for a $200.00 Gift Card but haven’t been able to access the http://www.wfm.com/Feedback Website. Is the sweepstakes over?
I tried multiple times, in numerous ways. Finally I started with the date of purchase and the hand of Jeff swooped down and opened up.
Why can I not enter the WFM site to complete my survey/feedback for the chance to win a $250 gift card. I’ve tried multiple times!!!
I have always been a fan of Whole foods. I recommend it to everyone. Yes termas i sentir to your location and bought some squid. I prepared them as soon as i got home. It is impossible to enter to win a $250 gift card. I just talked with someone at your customer service. I do Krogers all the time and would have been done already. This is not a good way to make people want to shop in your store.
I have always shoped at whole foods when amazon took over it has changed I was buying some oils one day sign said 30 present off and when I got to register the girl asked me if I was on prime and I am not when my daughter orders for so they would not give me the discount I will not shop ther again and iwill miss it to bad not fair
What the heck is going on with this survey.
Asking personal, private information.
Way too invasive and none of your business
today I shopped at Whole Foods in Rocky River, Ohio, on Detroit Rd . Before checking out, I had to ask an employee (who was loading shelves ) for a specific item I couldn’t find (gluten free organic oatmeal ). He was very pleasant, showed me where the product was, and proceeded to show me other kinds and prices of oatmeal. Then , at checkout, I had a VERY patient employee who agreed to remove 3 items already on the receipt. They both should get a raise !
I frequently drive volunteer service taking people to their Dr appointments and have visited your store! I had some of your Goulash which was Wonderful and had my eyes on some of those sandwiches which were very appealing to the eyes and hopefully my stomach! I was in your store on 1/17/2020 and decided to order the Panini New Yorker sandwich and the person at the counter made the sandwich and wrapped it up and I paid for it and left back to where I dropped off the client! When I opened the sandwich I was rather surprised and set back by not only the way it looked but also there was hardly anything on the sandwich which is not how it looked when I saw it on display in your sandwich window!!! There was more meat on a dollar McDonald’s hamberber than what was on this sandwich and I have to say I was very Deeply dissapointed not only on how it looked but tasted as well. I’m not sure if the person at the counter knew how to make this sandwich or was just in a hurry but I don’t believe this is the type of business your company does! I kept the receipt and was charged $10.59 total for the sandwich. I hope you can find out what happened and why the sandwich was made so terrible because things like this can put a damper on someone new coming into your store! I hope to hear back from you and give you another chance to redeem yourselves on those sandwiches!!!
