The original Loblaws opened in Toronto, Canada in 1919. It was called Loblaw Groceterias.

It was a self-serve grocery model, new at the time, and its popularity exploded in tune with its crazy explosive growth.

loblaws survey

In just a decade, 70 stores had already opened in Ontario.

The chain keeps expanding South, ending up America in New York State, complete with a Buffalo, NY American headquarters.

By the time it grew into Chicago, the current Loblaw president told the more dangerous Chicago city area owners that if the store is held up at gunpoint they should just give the robber the money.

loblaws dollars

By 1939, they have taken “Groceterias” off the name, and just Loblaw is left as we know it today.

1949, Loblaws keeps innovating, adding in air conditioning to keep shoppers healthy and cool in their stores, and adding in “magic doors” that open for the customer without having to touch them.

Sadly in 2006 the store had its first loss in over 20 years.

It had to try to resolve supply chain issues and get its profit back up. In 2007 it was profitable again.

loblaws

The Loblaw scandal, which involved two other companies, was that it participated in a bread price fixing scandal from 2001-2015.

To try to calm down angry customers, it offered $25 giftcards and was also sued in a lawsuit recently after.

  1. I didn’t see anything that was for Super Store, entered my code number which is 122818 151008 824 0152 where it said Loblaws, however when I put in the # 824 they said it was not correct, and I checked my number 3 times. Is Loblaws and Super Store affiliated? Kind of disappointed that my code number didn’t work!

    1. My experience with Walgreens on 23rd Street and Sterling is always a good experience not long Waits doesn’t matter the weather it service and always helping out medicines not there they call other stores and then you can go pick them up at your convenience

  2. Great customer service..Shopping at the Valu-mart isn’t a chore, the store is attractive & CLEAN. Staff is helpful AND pleasant AND professional. as a volunteer for the local ( Manitouwadge) Food Bank it’s important to stretch every loonie & toonie to the MAX… so shopping the flyer for specials is vital & being able to phone in our orders & knowing it will be ready for us to pick up is such a time saver It is apparent that these new owners , the McNeil’s are what all merchants SHOULD be…. engaged in their community , kind, approachable & just good people.

  3. Codes don’t work for your survey contest. The fourth set of numbers only has 3 numbers on several of my receipts. Previously there were 4 numbers. I have thrown some away because I was mad, but I do still have 3 of them that do not work and many, many others that I have entered into the contest. It is just in the past couple of days that the codes have changed and do not work.

  5. I would like to tell you the wonderful experience I had at store #00300 Eastgate Square, Hamilton.
I had not been in the store for a few years. Received wonderful assistance from Theresa and Katana in Bakery helping me pick out my own birthday cake, (many laughs over that one) and from Chrissy in Deli, who helped
me chose a cheese that she thought everyone would like, (and they did). Brenda on cash, what to say about Brenda. Very friendly, personable and put me at ease. I did call Mike Rozenberg to let him know of my experience and he was delighted. As I hope you can tell, I do prefer people who have a sense of humour about them, it makes me want to go back again, and I certainly will. Thanks again to these great ladies and your store.

  6. C’est mon magasin épicerie préféré , les prix sont bon et j’ai ma carte master card choix du président et les points qui s’accumule et l’argent que je prends de ma cartes accumulé baisse mon épicerie et j’aime ça merci de Thetford Mines

  7. I have been a SuperStore customer for some time now, but that is about to change! I dislike having only self-service registers for check-out – unless I wait in a very long line-up. Fridays are not as bad since there are 3 registers open. However, I am not usually in the area on a Friday! I plan to go back on Monday and if things are no better, I will NEVER be back again.

  8. I tried THREE TIMES the 26 digit number printed underneath the Bar Code to enter by telephone and each time the automated voice interrupted before I could finish entering the last 6 numbers!!! This was so fu–king frustrating I gave up and tried entering by your storeopinion.ca website and got much the same run-around.
Does anything work other than the excellent employees at our No Frills 79503645704 store? At least there I am treated with respect and care which always makes for a return visit whenever I need groceries.
Its time you fixed your telephone entry option. It works worse than the years you ripped us off over the bread price fixing issue a measly $25 tried to fix. I’m still pissed you were allowed to get away from that issue. You’re probably a Liberal Company and operate like Tredeau did over the Jody Wilson Raybold and SNC Lavalin sweetheart deal offered to corrupting and bribing to secure contracts while crying over 9000 lost jobs at stake!
What a croc of s–t just like that lying SOB Trudeau and his gang of thieves!

  9. I like the prices but I do not like shopping there because of the lack of tills open at any given time. The staff are great but we affectionately call it FIGHT FOR FOOD.
