Mastercard has been around for over 50 years, which is a lot for a credit card company, as they are relatively new in the scheme of things.

They started in 1966 as part of the Interbank Card Association (ICA).

In 1979, as their products expanded, they renamed themself “Mastercard” to reflect the new products including debit cards.

Interestingly, in 2016 they updated their name again, this time making the first letter lowercase, to the new name ‘mastercard’.

I’m not sure if I like the lowercase m.

It almost seems less professional, although I can see how they might have changed it to seem more techy and future-looking.

What are your thoughts on both name changes? Let me know in the comments below.

Whether you call the company Mastercard or mastercard, one thing everyone can agree on is their Priceless Bahamas Getaway is a very fun sweepstakes.

  1. Where to begin???? I scratched and won a $100 prepaid Mastercard in this contest on July 28th. Contest closed August 2nd. Have not received anything yet and when inquiring at President’s Choice Mastercards on more than one occasion they told me to contact the store. Both Superstore and No Frills where I received the entries refer me back to you, but after several long phone calls, no one seems to know anything about this contest and when I’m to receive m prize. Please advise.

    1. Did anyone actually get the card they won?? I am also still waiting and after contacting both Mastercard and Superstore, I cannot get anyone who can tell me what to do next…………I would think a company like Mastercard would be more responsible. I thought the gift cards were supposed to be delivered within 8-12 week. I won at the end of July, so expected my prize by now. Does anyone have any idea who else to call?
