Michael J. Dupey founded Michaels in 1973 in TX. Today it has grown to over 1,200 stores and is the biggest US craft store.

Even though Dupey founded it in 1973, its success caught the eye, and heart, of businessman Sam Wyly who bought the controlling interest in the company in 1982.

  1. A young asian woman could not understand when I asked her about a product they previously have had in this store. I am a black person who felt like she did not feel like she was able to communicate with so she immediately called the manager for instructions to help her understand. I was not speaking ebonic, or however you say that, but still, the only thing was, I asked If they still have the stray fans or palm frong fans that that had there for years at end of summer. I hope I did not make her afraid, the receipt was tossed toward me over the counter, and her response was, Are you OK. I reached down and picked it up off the floor. I don’t play the black card, but she played the asian card as a weak response to her inability and the manager at the time’s ability to be on the job to see a future problem. We have shopped there for years, but unless this is addressed, we will not shop there and will spread the word. And by the way, I am black, we have black, asian, white, and native americans in our family that have made a choice to shop there, but that can change. Do not let one stupid group of people make that difference. We also can change. Even when you do not know the change the dollar bill can make (Not black, not brown, not whatever you are). RUDE PEOPLE AT THE COUNTER WILL HURT YOU INCOME.

    1. You do not seem very educated since you’re writing things like…”will hurt YOU income”and”have” instead of had also what does it matter that they were Asian and you are black are you racist people are people no matter what color their skin is

  2. I just took the online survey and if I could make a suggestion I think you may agree .I don’t know why you don’t have a section on your survey to ask what if anything you would like to see added to your store
    This is Janet Carter , I do plenty of shopping at Michael’s store in Dayville,CT. I was surprised to see that in none of the stores they do not have any buttons of any kind . I make plenty of things with buttons on them, I use the big colorful buttons but I always have to shop around I asked the girls at Michael’s why a Craft store wouldn’t have buttons. She was very nice and helpful but I just wanted to make a suggestion. As of right now I mentioned it the same way at Walmart and now they carry them. Thank you for listening.

  3. Went to Michaels today. Had a 50 per cent coupon. Bought a wreath marked $42.00 CDN. Got home and read my bill. I was charged $56.00 minus a 50per cent coupon. Paid $28.00 instead of $21.00. Checked bill. Right SKU. So how does this happen. I will say, it is not the first time I have experienced this at Michael’s. I will check my bill more closely. Return was no problem, but I had to go back to the store. Hmmmm……..

  4. I recently visited your store in Langley, BC and was extremely disappointed at the chose of Knitting and Crochet Pattern books!!! People are working on products for winter and Christmas, I would have thought there would have been an abundance!!! It would also be nice to see some new product lines!! Happy Customers are repeat customers!!

  5. When I checked out at the Arden, NC Michaels today, Keena Steffin was the clerk. She said it was just her third day on the job. She was awesome – such a sweet and upbeat personality!!! She was also very efficient!!!

  7. I am trying to take the 25% Off Survey and I can’t get it to take my Survey Code which is 11700-10619-16590-04890-92 . I made my purchase on 1/06/19 but I guess I won’t be getting my 25% Off. These surveys should be made easier to do.

  8. why does Michael’s charge for the kids crafts class they charge $2.00 $ 5.00 for a 20 cents project I would be more open to buying items. we make in class if I was not charged for that class. this way the kids who take the class become consumers and parents will buy their children projects from Michael’s

I’m dis appointed not receiving the 25% off regular price purchase, for I’m on my way to Michael’s now; it’s not often I qualify for a saving’s, and it’s up on the 29th of April. Signed Disappointed

  11. Survey will not take my code as with so many others. Caitlin (5star) at the Mishawaka store was so helpful but if she is to get credit or something I’m sorry it didn’t work.

  13. I completed Michael’s survey and entered my code which took a few attempts, but finally worked. I received my coupon code (yayyyy!) and then sat my phone down to get the reciept and a pen, but before I could write it down my kitty stepped on my phone and it disappeared. Is there anyway to retrieve it or have it sent to my email?

  14. very frustrating!!!! attempted to enter my survey code numerous times….can not do it. does not allow me to enter. what s wrong with this program????? i dont want to lose the coupon….

    1. When you finish the survey, check if there is a time limit to use the coupon written on the page! If there is not, then you likely it won’t expire.

  15. I found someone to help me right away. She helped me find exactly what I was looking for and carried it to the check-out counter where I was treated with great courtesy. I paid with my credit card and was out the door with my purchase and on my way. That is the kind of experience I love to have. Thank you!

  16. I also couldn’t get the space to come up where we enter the code. The site came up did a half hour survey that had nothing to do with Michael’s. CALLED store to assist + couldn’t, called CO 800 number said working. Tried 5 times NEED to just give 800 number VERY disappointing + wastes time for Nothing
